Exciting History and Craft Centre at Barnsley


The award winning Elsecar Heritage Centre is an exciting History and Craft Centre, set in the attractive conservation village of Elsecar and surrounded by beautiful South Yorkshire countryside.








The Centre is located within the former ironworks and colliery workshops of the Earls Fitzwilliam, where visitors can explore the attractively restored buildings and monuments, wander alonside the Dearne and Dove Canal and follow footpaths including a branch of the Trans-Pennine Trail.


Attractions at the Elsecar Heritage Centre include the Steam Railway, Antiques Centre, Craft Shops and working units, Hot Metal Press - traditional printers, Bottle Museum, Tea-rooms, 'Playmania' children's activity centre, the world famous Newcomen Beam Engine - the only Newcomen type pumping engine in the world still in it's original position, and Building 21 - exhibition centre, which hosts a wide range of weekly special events from Antique Fairs, Dog Shows to Children's events, offering an interesting ambition!
